How to improve your personal style with Pinterest?

How TO improve your personal style

As we all know, Pinterest is full of beautiful, inspirational and interesting content and pictures. But it can actually be very useful too, especially for fashionistas or people who are thinking what to wear and how to wear it. Since I started using Pinterest to improve my own wardrobe, I’ve probably saved hundreds of euros and also it has helped me to really find my own style. And now I’m here to share these 3 steps towards a better style.

1. Create separate boards for different kinds of clothes

I do have an own boards for boots, heels, coats, dresses, bags etc. You can use the same technique or you can for example create different boards for work, school, home, formal or what ever suits best for you. When you are pinning all your favorite boots in one place and heels in another, it is easier to see immediately what kind of boots you like by just watching that particular board.

2. Pin everything you love

Even if you have those separate boards, they won’t be useful if they are empty. So spend some time on Pinterest or exploring some great fashion pictures online. Every time you see something that looks great, pin it. Also when you pin things, add some description and tell why you loved it. It helps you to find out what are the things you want to add to your own style as well. You can also pin editorial fashion pictures, pictures of patterns, materials or colors. Make your pinboard an endless source of inspiration.

3. Plan before you go shopping

Before you go shopping take a little bit time to think about what you need. This is actually something you should do even without Pinterest. When you have decided what you are looking for, it’s time to take a look at your Pinterest wishlist.

Let’s imagine you need to have a new coat for winter. You see your “Coats for winter” board and start making a list. Write down you favorite models, your favorite materials, colors and brands. You immediately see that you have pinned red coats made of leather. You can also print out your favorite pictures and add them to your list as an inspiration. Take that list with you when you are going to find out that coat.

I know these steps aren’t rocket science, but for me Pinterest was really something that helped me so much to figure out what I love and what I don’t. And it is easier not buy something “not so me.” I mean if you have decided to buy 50’s style dress with floral pattern, you probably won’t go home with little black dress just because “I couldn’t find anything nicer.” And Pinterest is so easy too! You only need some interest to explore new outfit inspiration and new products on the internet.

And when you have been doing this for a while, you start to realise how your closet is full of clothes you actually like to wear. No more mistakes or compromises with clothes. It’s all about planning and getting inspired by other people’s styles.

I’m not fashionable but I know my style

You look like you’ve really found your own style

That was what my new friend told me few weeks ago. I haven’t been thinking about finding or creating any particular style. I just wear what I like to wear and only buy clothes that I really adore.

I’m not that into fashion. I don’t love any designers and I actually think that most of the clothes on catwalks are hideous. Really. I know that they are not made for wearing, or at least I hope so, but still they are usually horrible. There are some couture gowns I like, but they are more like exceptions. And I’m not interested in fashion weeks at all.

But I like to dress up. I adore clothes. I really think what I wear. But I’m not fashionable.

When I go shopping, usually I don’t buy anything. Because I’m so picky. I hate most of the clothes in the store. But when I find something, I buy it. And I never do mistakes. I know what I like. So maybe this means that I’ve found my style.

Things I’m into right now: flamingo sheets

I’m addicted to flamingos. I don’t know why but I just love those pink, beautiful birds. Today I’ve been searching all kinds of flamingo stuff in Pinterest and oh my gosh, there are plenty of things I didn’t even no that exists! No I absolutely have to buy flamingo sheets, flamingo purse, flamingo jacket and those cute all glitter flamingo statues what I absolutely don’t need but what I absolutely want. And I am thinking about getting this flamingo tattoo. But first I’ll get my parrot tattoo…

This posti is kind of random, but I think I’m kind of random person too. I just love flamingos and all kinds of colorful birds. My parents have parrots, maybe that’s the reason I’m totally addicted with parrots and flamingos. There is also another reason why these beautiful creatures are important to me. First they are symbol of communication. Second, it’s been said that parrots bring joy to your life. And those are two meaningful things for me. And third thing is that I love everything colorful. I just can’t have enough colors in my life.

Okay, I’m talking silly things already so it’s time to show you some pictures of things I really want. Enjoy!

5 things you definately need to survive autumn

1. Moisturising. I don’t know if I’m the only one, but my skin and hair are very dry in autumn. And it just gets worse during winter. So I use The Body Shops Honeymania bodybutter on my body, Nivea Creme on my face and The organic coconut oil for my hair and hands. These products are really saving me and my skin. And they are not very expensive.

2. New fragrance. Autumn is a new beginning and in every new beginning I need new fragrance. I just love how my old fragrances are reminding me of some certain time in my life. Like Escadas Incredibe Me reminds me of my first crush. I’m now using this Calvin Kleins Sheer beauty essence, but I’m looking for a new one. I hope that this one will remind me of the summer in Helsinki. Right now I’m collecting fragrance samples and trying to figure out, which one of these new fragrances will be my next.

3. Protect against the rain. I don’t know if this means I’m finally growing up, but today I bought my first umbrella. Really this is my first one. I’ve always thought it’s a bit embarrassing to use an umbrella, but now I think I rather use one than get cold and wet. And I think this one is actually quite cool.

4. Some protection against the cold weather. In autumn and in winter I always wear knits and cardigans. And knitted socks. I can’t knit them myself but these socks in the picture are made by my granma. And I love them. In autumn it’s also time to switch your ballerinas to something that keeps the rain out. Last week I bought these leather boots from a second hand shop in Helsinki. And this is a perfecct pair.

5. Some time with yourself and a nice cup of tea. Autumn is a busy season. It’s time for new beginnings and you propably have loads to do. But remember to take some time just for yourself. I love tea and it’s definately part of my autumn. In summer I can’t drink it, because it’s too hot out there. But when the weather gets cold and I come home from school tired as hell, then I have a cup of tea and maybe read a good book. That’s what I call perfection.

Wow factor part 1: Turban

I think that every outfit should have “the wow factor.” One easy way to put it in there is turban. I bought this hand made turban from second hand shop Frida Marina in Helsinki. I think it’s just stunning and you can wear it with more formal dress or just with jeans and t-shirt. So easy!

A hint of grunge. Grey like a mouse. I had a bad hair day so the hat with mouse ears was perfect. This is also the opening of my knit-season. You propably won’t me wearing anything else during this autumn-winter -time.

It’s never too cold to wear THE dress

Autumn has really hit us in Finland this week and the weather has been rainy and cold. That’s a shame, because last weekend I bought this dress from Selected and I’d really want to wear it but since it’s been so cold, I haven’t.

But today I decided to wear it anyway. I put on my coat and my scarf so I think I’ll make it through this day. Maybe I should wear leggings too to make it warmer…

Here is some pictures of this dress and how I’ve styled it.

Daily outfit: Careless chick

SAMSUNG CSC

Today I am a careless chick. I don’t mind my hair to be messy and wild. I don’t mind my nail laquer to be cracked. I keep my clothes simple and just color my lips bright coral and go. Today there’s no need to worry.

You can never wear too much flowers

Hey babes, here is some daily outfit just for you. It’s been very hot weather here in Finland lately and everytime you go out it feels like you are going to melt. At least this nortern girl is melting.

So, for summer there must always be flowers and yesterday I bought myself some yellow roses. But you should also wear them. Today I wear a pink flower crown from Bikbok and a lace dress from Gina Tricot. I’m still not sure if I’m gonna wear this dress at work too. It may show a little bit too much cleavage and it’s maybe a little bit short too. But I’m not sure yet.

I also bought this lovely flower kimono from Bikbok last week and I have to say that I just adore it. But it’s little too hot right now but maybe I’ll take it with me to the office since I’m doing evening shift today and when I’ll go back home it might be cooler out there.
